Activities & Clubs

The Juinor Classical League, or JCL, aims to be an exciting club for all students to grow in friendship and knowledge. JCL is a national organization that works to promote the study of the civilizations of Greece and Rome in our world today. Our JCLers are members of the Texas State Junior Classical League as well as the National Junior Classical League. JCL holds local, state, and national conventions where delegates have an opportunity to meet other students and participate in academic, creative, and graphic arts contests, and athletic competitions. NJCL provides leadership opportunities on local, state, and national levels. JCL or The Junior Classical League has two separate chapters: one for Middle School and another for Upper School. They meet and practice at separate times.

Mock Trial is a club open to 9th - 12th grade students where these students must play the roles of both attorneys and witnesses in a simulated trial. It is a great way for students to gain insight on how our judicial system works, plus, gaining confidence speaking in front of others and have a lot of fun at the same time.

The competition consists of a team of high school students which must learn both sides of the case study (Prosecution/Plaintiff and Defense) and students must play the roles of both attorneys and witnesses in an artificial trial. Members work together to learn the facts of the case and create strategies for trial and then compete in local-area meets.

The Regional meet is usually held on a weekend between January 15-February 15 at a local courthouse or legal institution in Houston. The winner of this meet will then advance to the State Competition in Dallas, TX held the first weekend of March during the current school year. The final champion team will then represent the Great State of Texas at the National High School Mock Trial Competition held in May (usually the first or second weekend).

Quiz Bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic competition that includes questions from areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture. Open to Middle and Upper School students, the Quiz Bowl program prepares teams to participate in local, regional, and national competitions.

The mission of HOSA is to help students become leaders in the global health community by providing opportunities for education, collaboration, and experience.

Upper School students mentor Lower and Middle school students who have requested extra academic assistance. Tutors and Study Buddies work after school (from 3:30-5:30pm) to assist with organizing planners, reviewing assignments, prioritizing work, developing homework strategies, building study skills, and working on specific course content (math, spelling, reading, science, etc.). This is a paid opportunity for our Upper School students that provides, for many of them, their first real job experience.

Student Ambassadors are Middle and Upper School volunteer representatives who help at open houses, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, accepted student shadowing, kindergarten acceptance parties, and other school events. Ambassadors greet guests, give tours, and answer questions from parents and students.

The Student Government Association aims to empower all students by fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. We strive to represent student voices, promote school spirit, and enhance the overall high school experience. Together, we will create a positive and supportive atmosphere where every student feels valued and heard.

The HOPE (Helping Open People's Eyes) club’s mission is to involve the St. Thomas’ Episcopal student body in acts of community service, such as church events, food drives, and care packages for armed service members. The HOPE club's main service project each year is Operation Christmas Child, which blesses children around the world with a shoe box of gifts along with a personal note.

The STE Sports Club is dedicated to fostering school spirit and community pride by creating an inclusive and enthusiastic environment for all students. We strive to enhance attendance at games, energize the student section, and promote camaraderie through exciting events, including our annual Powder Puff game. Together, we aim to inspire passion for our teams, build lasting friendships, and celebrate the vibrant culture of STE.

Are you ready to make lasting friendships and discuss important topics? Twice a month, Middle school and Upper school girls come together in a welcoming environment. Each middle schooler is paired with a “big sister” upper schooler, fostering community and bridging the gap between grades. 

Seventh and eighth grade students have the opportunity to participate in Junior Cotillion (offered by the National League of Junior Cotillions) on our campus. Participants receive instruction and practice in etiquette, manners, character education, and traditional dancing. Cotillion, which meets on campus one evening a week for five weeks beginning each January, culminates with the Cotillion Ball at a local country club in February.

Cub Scout Pack 1226, Boy Scout Troop 1226 and various Girl Scouts meet on the STE campus.
