Book Character Pumpkins

November 5, 2019, Author: CONeal

Each year in October, students in 1st grade take inspiration from one of their favorite books and create a character-pumpkin. This year’s characters include classic children’s favorites like Pete the Cat and Harry Potter, as well as new characters like Needlebot from the Alphabots by The Impossible Winterbourne. This Texas-based author kindly donated a signed copy of his book to the St. Thomas library last fall.

This project emphasizes both art and literacy as students must write a book report to work on their skills in summarizing what they have read in addition to crafting their pumpkins. And of course students learn a lot as they read these books with their families at home.
