We are proud to have a new Director of Community & Enrollment joining our St. Thomas family this year. Please help us welcome Christina Mackey, M.Ed. She will help lead our school in realizing our vision to be the premier school in the Clear Lake Area for wholistic child development, rooted firmly in academics and guided by moral and spiritual growth.
Dearest STAES families,
I am enamored with the thought of my family becoming a congruent part of yours. I have been married to my husband Elliott for the past 7 years and we have two daughters, Elliyah and Suri, who very much look forward to their journeys as students of STAES. Elliott is a Navy veteran and former Houston firefighter. Needless to say, he has a golden heart of service and an insatiable drive to offer himself to anyone in need. He currently works as an operator in the oil and gas industry but doubles on the Emergency Response Team for plant hazards.
I have been an educator, in many forms, ( from teaching to administration)over the past 12 years, specializing in curricular development in nonprofit education. With an undergraduate degree in English Literature from Pepperdine University and a Masters in both English and Education from the University of South Florida, I tote a colorful load of eclectic skills that span the calling for most simply put, raising kind humans.
I deeply believe that for the child, and for the parent seeking to nurture them, it is not nearly as important to know, as to feel. It is most important to pave the way for the child to yearn for inquiry, than to put them on a diet of facts they are not ready to consume. That, in a nutshell, is my philosophy on learning.
As aforementioned, I have served in education in many roles; my most recent years have been spent in enrollment. Experiencing the comprehensive life cycle of an enrollment, from internalization to graduation is an extremely precious privilege and I hold the responsibility of that calling close to my heart. As Mr. Rogers once said, “The best thing we can do for humans is to let each one of them know that they are precious.” At the helm of enrollment, this role allows me the opportunity to do just that, day by day.
My prayer is that you will knead your hearts to expand just enough to accommodate room for me; a new face amid a very familiar, very present and very involved team at STAES. My
family and I are thrilled to be here and I look forward to air-hugging and building relationships with you all in the coming weeks!
