Great schools never stop growing and developing themselves. Our Upper Elementary Program is doing just that. This year our Upper Elementary teachers are dropping traditional roles as generalists in order to serve as content area experts, teaching one or two areas of study. In doing so, our teachers are now able focus on delivering a master level of expertise in one or two subjects. This strategy also allows them to better differentiate their instruction to meet each student’s needs. Moreover, our teachers are thrilled to have the the opportunity to teach the content areas they are passionate about and we believe that passion will inspire our students.
Upper Elementary
Upper Elementary: Grade 4 - 5
Our Upper Elementary teachers work closely together to collaborate and coordinate their content areas in order to help their students achieve a deeper understanding in those subjects. They also work together to manage communication with families and arrange parent teacher meetings.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of this departmentalized approach to upper elementary is that it prepares kids for the transition to middle and high school.
As a complement to the curriculum, focus is given to developing students’ emerging understanding of the world at large through interdisciplinary projects with their peers as well as through service projects that serve our local community.
